This qualification is suited to those aiming to be a skilled operator working in a civil construction plant. The successful participant will apply a broad range of skills in a varied work context and utilise discretion, judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team/workforce.

Occupational titles may include:

Plant Operator
Civil Construction Worker
Road Construction Worker

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the civil construction industry plus elective units. A total of 19 units (14 core and 5 elective) are required to be completed to achieve the qualificatoin. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires most units of competency to be delivered in this context.
