This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working in civil construction. It covers common skills for the construction industry, as well as options for specialist fields of work.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Civil Construction Pipe Layer
  • Civil Road Construction and Maintenance worker
  • Civil Construction Labourer

The qualification has 7 core units of competency plus 18 elective units of competency. A total of 25 units of competency are required to be completed to achieve the qualification.

Construction Industry Training has customised their electives for this qualification in order to provide two specialist learning pathways: (1) Pipe Laying and (2) Road Construction and Maintenance.

The general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) (otherwise known as a White Card) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of the unit “CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in The Construction Industry” (or its equivalent) covers this requirement.

Learning Options

This course is offered via the following methods in various locations across South-East Queensland:

Flexible Delivery / Workplace Training:

  • Self paced online learning (suggested 8 hours a week)
  • Regular Trainer contact via phone and email
  • Trainer one on one workplace visits when required

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

  • Gap training for experienced workers
  • Trainer/Assessor one on one workplace visits to assist with the application
  • Undertake a personal interview and challenge tests to confirm your skills and knowledge
  • Self-paced learning for gap training
